Cushion re fills

Hi I'm looking to have 2 sofa cushions ( large seat cushions with washable covers) refilled either with foam./sponge or some sort of filler? Does anyone know where I can get this or have this done for me please. I am based in Quesada.

Thank you

Car Rental

Hi,
Can anyone recommend any reasonable Car Rental Companies. The company I have used 'Wheels in Spain' are fully booked. Need to pick up & drop off at Alicante Airport, many thanks.

La Marina

Hi. Try open car in Quesada, they seem pretty reliable. We are getting car rental companies coming on the website, but just checking them all out first before they go on!

Self Storage

Hi! New member + virgin post to the wall, so hello to all!

I will be taking over a property in La Marina Urb in March/April next year. Until then it would be practical to have access to a self storage facility.

Does anyone here know of any such operations in the area from Alicante city to Torrevieja? Should preferably be an individual unit, with easy access without having to make appointments up front.

Hi Tommy,
There are storage units on the main strip in La Marina ( where Tio Pepe, Tummies, and Serafin bar are located) They are owned by a guy names Willie, he owns the company Prosihal. The is an office also located on the strip by the above mentioned places. Sorry I don't know the name of the road. There are 2 sizes of storage unit, the most expensive is 50é a month. If you pay for a year in advance you get a discount. You hve your own key and come and go as you please. You can drive your car to the door of your storage unit, so great for loading and unloading your stuff. Hope that helps.

Hi Nicki,
Do you have their telephone numbers ?

Commented Bikerbee in Hondon de las Nieves 2016-04-16 08:08:44 UTC

The phone numbers listed on Prosihal's advertising board are (0034) 966 797 798 and 608 077 436. The location is given by Nikki in the above post.

Internet & Mobile Phone Roaming Charges 2016/17

So I find myself having purchased a property on La Marina Urb & due to exchange shortly.

What's the script with UK mobile phones ?

As I understand it, as from 30th April 2016 roaming charges are being reduced to : outgoing calls from my UK phone can only be charged at no more than €0.05 per minute & no more than €0.05 per MB data when accessing the internet on my phone.

Then from 15 June 2017 there is no roaming charges charge for using a UK phone across the EU.

In light of that is it actually worth me getting internet or another phone ? - I will be planning on tethering my laptop to my mobile for internet and HDMI lead to TV using a UK IP address.

Cheers in advance if anyone answers

La Marina

That's all well and good for calls you make but .... it will cost quite a lot for spanish calls to be made to your UK phone. "Not your problem" I hear you say - but, for deliveries, etc, most spanish companies are very reluctant to ring a UK number and want either a spanish mobile or landline number as their contact. I know this because I've tried to survive with just my UK mobile out here - well nigh impossible!

Commented janineb in La Marina 2016-03-07 09:06:35 UTC

No it's EU wide which means any Country in the EU can call any EU number and the same rule applies for them as it does me.

Commented Rod in La Marina 2016-03-07 09:45:04 UTC

Janineb - take a look here for the roaming charges being phased in....

http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/money-charges/mobile-roaming-costs/index_en.htm

Commented Rod in La Marina 2016-03-07 11:30:35 UTC

Yeah - fine. If the person trying to contact is ringing you off a mobile. But what if they are ringing you off a land line? Last time I "looked" most shops, hairdressers, dentists, delivery firms, etc were using land lines - these are the people that won't readily ring you on a UK mobile number.

Commented janineb in La Marina 2016-03-08 07:34:38 UTC

I s'pose that's what I Need to understand. Here in the UK my home landline phone monthly rental is fully inclusive of all phone calls, including mobile numbers. So would someone with a landline in Spain also have the same ?

If so then when 2017 comes around it won't make any difference to someone calling a UK mobile number from a landline in Spain.

Hi

Let's hope it's a yes vote in the referendum, or we will lose all these benefits.

Commented Stephens View in La Marina 2016-03-08 12:19:45 UTC

I'll 2nd that Stephens view - although I've already made my mind up that if it was to be a vote for out then I'll relocate permanently to La Marina.

Commented Rod in La Marina 2016-03-08 12:45:15 UTC

I guess that will be dependant on what the visa conditions would be, after all there would be no open borders anymore.

Commented Jodies Groom Room in La Marina 2016-03-09 07:01:28 UTC

Good point Jodies Groom Room - maybe I'll have to apply for residency sooner than I had anticipated. It's the uncertainty of it all that is most troubling, to which no one person can say with certain what the eventual outcome would be.

I would guess that in the event of an out vote being victorious that the UK would then seek individual agreements with each EU country - this will probably start with the more wealthier countries suchlike Germany before getting round to Spain.

Should that be the case it will be a long winded process taking years to finalize, but would suspect it would be the same as other agreements in place between Spain & some other non eu countries - which is to say - remain for 90 days without requiring a visa. A simple evidenced trip across the border to Portugal or France every 90 days, whilst being a pain, may be the answer if you don't have residency.

One thing i'm pretty sure of is that UK tourism is too valuable to Spain for there not to be any special agreement in place.

Commented Rod in La Marina 2016-03-09 08:29:15 UTC

Rod
My landline gives me 4 Hrs a month free to UK LANDLINES , I have a Spanish mobile my wife has UK mobile if she calls me its 50p for up to a hour but still 50p if she is connected to my answering machine say 20 secs. For me to call my wife's mobile from my Spanish one is extortionate hence the reason carrier and other tradesmen will not call UK mobiles. And in most cases their website won't allow you to enter a UK number.

Commented Weejohnten in La Marina 2016-03-09 13:35:07 UTC

Weejohnten - Ok understood, sounds like a nightmare, let's hope that the vote is stay in and when 2017 comes along all the phone charge issues will go away.

Hi all
Can I strongly recommend that all ex-pats register to vote to help ensure that all these benefits are kept. It will be a shame if the Little England brigade damage the progress that has been made.

Commented Stephens View in La Marina 2016-03-10 17:58:19 UTC

Ill be voting in for sure - not just because of the obvious benefits, mainly because I believe it to be a justice to those who fought & lost their life's in the 2nd world war.

Commented Rod in La Marina 2016-03-10 18:04:51 UTC

Absolutely Rod, I totally agree.

Commented Stephens View in La Marina 2016-03-10 18:11:38 UTC

I found it easy to register online with very fast response. All i needed was my old postcode, passport no. and NI number. My council responded the next day for details of where to send the voting slips.

Commented chalkie in Quesada 2016-03-12 23:05:03 UTC

Hi Rod I fail to understand your logic there. You want to sit at the same table as the country that caused that war? Don't know if you noticed but there is a major stealth war going on at the moment in Europe with the Islamification of Christian countries Especially the UK. The ramifications of this are horrendous.

Commented dynosore in San Fulgencio 2016-04-13 10:44:48 UTC

dynasore, or perhaps you're a dinosaur. A creature that died out almost 100 million years ago.
You seem like a person without historical knowledge of why the EU exists. The European Union is first and foremost an organization that was formed to reduce the risk of war in Europe. And it has been successful.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2016-04-13 19:42:55 UTC

I wasn't looking for anyone to understand my logic no more than I look to understand another's logic.

I have a view and others have their views - to attempt to swing another's view is often futile.

American fridge

We are thinking of buying a American style fridge/freezer with a built in filter system will this be enough to clean water or will we need the system like on the market.

Thank you for help in advance.

La Marina

We have drank the tap water here since 1994 and have never had a problem or been ill. It is probably cheaper to buy bottled if unsure.

Commented jackieb57 in La Marina 2016-03-31 07:26:11 UTC

The main problem I think is the hard water with Calcium/Limescale. If the fridge can reduce that then there shouldn't be anything else.

Whenever I return to the UK, it's noticeable the chemical smells coming from running taps. I tend to avoid tap water there.

Commented chalkie in Quesada 2016-04-06 21:52:16 UTC

I sell a Dual Water Filter on the market, which takes out the smell and taste of chlorine, kills all bacteria, and greatly reduces the limescale, and is very efficient. Yes, the tap water is safe, but I personally don't like it because of the chlorine, after all chlorine is a bleach and an irritant and I am sure most people would not drink Domestos. Bottled water is dangerous because of the plastic bottle. Because of the heat we get here, the plastic gives off toxins in the water, and usually gives people diahorrea and upset tummies. On a more serious note, if a bottle of water is left in a car in excessive heat, the toxins that are leeching into the water turn into dioxins, which are cancer causing chermicals. In fact it has been proven this can cause breast cancer. These facts can be checked. Just go online.
A water filter fitted in your kitchen can offer good clean water. The filters on American fridges usually have a little carbon filter fitted to them which have to be changed regularly. I have fitted many systems in kitchens, and run tubing from the filters into the back of the fridge, so giving you clean healthy water straight into your fridge. Come and have a chat on the Thursday market, or down next to Lidl on a Saturday morning. If I can help in any way, just ask, or, give me a ring on 627 769 102.

Selling a House

I hope to sell my house this year (a quad) and like most quads, I put a conservatory on the solarium.
Does anyone know the procedure involved before selling ?
I've heard the Town Hall makes you take the conservatory off, in order to obtain the Habitacion Certificate, then it can be, daft as it sounds, put back on.
Does the buyer or seller need to pay for the Habitacion Certificate ?
I've heard that some tricky Estate Agents charge both buyer and seller.
Thanks

Yes it has too come down and you need to get the habitation cert.

Commented luvmylife in La Marina 2016-03-31 10:32:36 UTC

Latest.....had agents round and they told me the conservatories have to come off...the Habitacion man comes round and gives you the nod, then it can all go back again, cost, about 1000 Euros, how stupid is that.
Oh by the way, I was quoted 550 euros for the Certificate, I called in at the Town Hall and was told it would be 50 Euros! Nice profit there.

Commented Al Marina in La Marina 2016-04-08 12:50:55 UTC

Its not stickily legal to put it back up again.

Commented johnmckernanjnr in La Marina 2016-04-08 19:16:18 UTC

The €50 is only the town hall tax. You still need to pay for an architect report cost @ €150.00, that has to go to town hall then they send there man out to check your home, then you will get your certificate.
