Have just read a wonderful piece in the Daily Mail, about Ryanair. Apparently their pilots have been told to fly slower, as by flying just two minutes per hour slower (3.3 %) they save 15% of the fuel consumption.
After looking at this, I work out that if they fly about 22% slower, they wouldn't use any fuel at all
Sounds like a good idea to me. If they fly slower then I wouldn't have to hear that trumpet sound telling me they have arrived on time. The next suggestion is that they just have catapults on each runway and just glide the route, that will make the pilots earn their money.
Alan and Marco, what a hoot. The only good thing I can say about them is that they usually give us an extra seat because I have to use my wheelchair in airports. I had a pal terrified of flying. Her husband knew the pilots at Dan Air so had told them of her plight. On her first ever flight the captain announced over the radio " I'm sorry people, we have to speed up as the plane behind is catching up". Poor Roz I won't tell you the result. Another comment was that they were going to put adverts inside and outside the planes.Would be great if easyjet took up the advertising space and stated that easyjet was a much superior airline than Ryanair.

No, that's the forward thinking for Ryan Air 2016 plan. Don't land, just shove the pensioners out mid-flight. Parachute costs are an additional extra though

Going wasn't bad but coming back there was a lot of weather. We actually flew in a Dacota. There were about 5 of us. This old plane rattled and groaned and frightened me to death. I might add I married the boy, a holiday romance that lasted 38 years Mary Catherine xx

Can you explain how you can fly two minutes an hour slower please as this startling breakthrough could be a way to minimise the aging effect.
I think that you might have meant that by flying a few miles an hour slower, the planes use an estimated 15% less fuel. Not exactly a new discovery as any driver will tell you that you consume more fuel at higher speeds.
You seem to have used a linear extrapolation to arrive at the 22% at which point no fuel would be needed, a basic mis-calculation of speed & fuel usage as well as an illogical assumption.
As for the "rubbish that the Daily Mail print" that came from Ryanair's own calculations and unless you've been involved in aircraft design at some point, I suggest that their calculations are probably more reliable than yours - and that's from someone who won't fly Ryanair out of choice.
Why do you say that "But mainly it shows just how even the big boys can start a rumour without any proof that it may be true" when every driver knows that reducing speed saves fuel.
I know that you feel that you have to comment on just about everything but some of your posts are quite frankly, ridiculous, and a moment's reflection might be worth while before pressing the enter button.
David, are you for real? I'd rather go off Alan's calculations than Ryan Air. Didn't they have to declare two emergency landings last year due to low fuel? I think I read that in the Daily Mail as well.

You stated - " as by flying just two minutes per hour slower" which is very different to the paper's headline statement. I also still stand by my statement that you cannot fly two minutes an hour slower. You can fly slower and add two minutes per scheduled hour longer but that is not what you said.
By the way, this was reported in the Sydney Herald and the Daily Telegragh so not just the Daily Mail printing rubbish but it would seem the press worldwide

my opinion is that two minutes an hour,means what you normally do in one hour you should do in one hour two
and two minutes flus a few seconds.(I converted this figures into 3.3%)
I think you missed the aside about this comment,which I think to most people would of been obvious,A few of us have been making comments light heartedly, to get away from the rumours that have been evident on this forum recently,I have no problem with that at all,you cant please all the people all the time.

As for other papers also reporting it,i didn't read other papers I read the Daily Mail,so why would I know or indeed say something I didn't know.

Yes fully agree with you .As you must know I order every newspaper,but unfortunately my paperboy is new and keeps on messing up my order,and half the time I end up getting comics. I have closed my account with the newsagent,but am having difficulty,finding one who can give me the service I believe I merit. Hence the reason I make mistakes in reporting newspaper reports, Its no wonder David finds some of my comments ridiculous, Sometimes I read them and have the same feeling, but I keep quiet about it

Sorry to disappoint you,but Alan is not Mazza's Dad,t his is not a rumour I can prove it, I have Alans birth certificate which proves without doubt that Mazza cannot be his Daughter. Although Alan did admit, That mazza sounds a really lovely person. I am sure you really knew that, but you wanted to join in the fun to lighten up this Forum, If you did believe it then you must be one hell of a selective reader of comments on this Forum.As it has been pointed out when Mazza was born and Alan then stated he was about 5 years YOUNGER than her (that is the proof surely about Mazza's Parentage.I hope you get the gist of this,

From this comment it's not unreasonable to assume the author's dad is named Alan and he's the person who wrote the original nonsense, and Mary Catherine has told her dad to calm down. Again it's not unreasonable for me to assume that Mazza is the forum's pseudonym for Mary!!
Hence my post in response to that. I really couldn't care two hoots about the family tree of those involved and if Mazza/Mary/Alan are or are not related, well, please don't bother to explain it all to me as I don't care.

David/ Poppy, stop slagging off my adopted Grand-Parents of Alan and Mazza. I'll have you know that they both fought at Rourke's Drift (ok on the Zulu side, but let bygones be bygones). What is it with all this negativity? I come from a town in the North of England, where most of the inhabitants have basically given up. I will go down kicking and screaming that it doesn't in this area. We need to support businesses rather than finding fault.
