Was anyone aware? There is currently a campaign by the Town Hall regarding control of animals. There is info on the own Hall Web site in Spanish and English, but other than that how on earth are residents supposed to know about these things? Brief details are shown below:-

San Fulgencio Control of Pets Campaign 2012 (18 Oct to 7 Nov)

1 – Animals must be registered with the Ayuntamiento and must be chipped and vaccinated.
2 – Rules for walking dogs in the street
• Dogs must always be on a chain or lead when in the street.
• Dogs on the dangerous dogs list must be on a lead of no more than 2metres (non extending) and must wear a muzzle suitable for the breed.

3 – DOGS DEFECATING IN PUBLIC SPACES.
Fines ranging from 30 € to 300 € will be imposed on offending owners ( Dog excrement bags are available at the Ayuntamiento)

PERSONALLY I BELIEVE THE POLICE SHOULD BE ENFORCING THIS, AND OTHER BYE LAWS AT ALL TIMES - I DO NOT SEE WHY A SHORT CAMPAIGN IS EITHER NECESSARY OR WILL MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. YOU SEE NUMEROUS DOGS OFF LEAD AND
LOADS OF DOG DO IN MOST OF THE AREA. It would be interesting to find out how many owners will have been fined or cautioned during this ´campaign`. Perhaps our illustrious councilor can publish the results.

Well I've spoke to many well a few people about this and to be honest no one takes any notice of what comes out of that town hall anymore. There reputations are damaged and there's no turning back.
The dump, the lies the everything that comes out of there.when it comes to the doggy campaign I've only seen signs by super valu.
Like you say either stick to it all year round or don't bother. The other thing is the police here don't want to know, there about 6-9 officers who don't do anything because of paper work. I was walking a puppy other day, police car passed me slowly, I had no dog tags no nothing on it. So there a waste of time just sitting in a car.
Please remember though when it comes to 6 months may be a year before next election they (PP-PIPN) will be out in force promising this and that. Don't listen to there lies. If only there were decent politicians who could just say there truth, I ain't got the money haven't got the resources and I can't promise anything. Ohh nooo they all talk crap and say what you need to hear.

Rules for dogs campaign.....our dog Dennis is chipped, passported and had his Ayuntamiento tag for over a year now and I've yet to see another La Marina dog sporting it's official dog tag around it's neck.
I would also love to be there when a La Marina police officer emerges from his or her car to approach someone with a dangerous dog to measure the length of it's lead...yea right :-))
and last but not least..how on earth are they going to decide whether a dog has done a €30 poo or a €300 poo...Hahaha...say no more!

If these RULES are being implemented by the Town Hall why then is the duty of the Police to control them. Dont the Police deal with "crime", surely if they want these RULES to be adhered to they should employ Dog Wardens. Dont get me wrong I totally agree with the rules, but its surely not the job of a policeman to make sure they are carried out.

There was talks of Dog wardens a while back but that was on run up to election times.
Nothing will ever work like that if the police are trying to enforce it. There what 3-4 police cars for the Urb I can gaurentee at least two of them cars are parked up at the garage having a coffe right now. The local police ain't really police, there town hall employees with a uniform and authority. If the councillors say to them jump they will reply how high.
All aside you are right as to ask why are the police enforcing it. Probably something to do with by-laws

I beg to differ, the police should enforce all relevant regulations and laws. We certainly do not need the added cost of dog wardens. I gather that the police are used on occasions to deliver mail on behalf of the Town Hall (that is 2 police offers in a car per letter). so they are hardly overworked. Another example of the things they ignore - illegally dumped rubbish by the household rubbish bins. Surely if they just got out of their cars for a few minutes, rang a few doorbells in the vicinity, and pointed out the offence to local residents the message would soon get around. OK they may not catch any of these inconsiderate morons actually offending, but you never know, someone might just pass on a bit of useful info to them This is community policing - totally alien to them at the moment.
