Why is it that I am expected to eat to get a seat in a lot of places in La Marina. There are times I would like to just go out have a drink and listen to the entertainment. I cannot stand in one place for any length of time because of a spinal problem I have. Why don't the bars have a small seating area for people like myself. I don't sit all night with a glass of water and would not have any objection to paying an entrance fee to these venues but, I don't want to be blackmailed into spending money on eating out all the time. If they are selling tickets for a meal and entertainment then I can understand it, but to keep tables empty just in case someone happens to walk in seems ludicrous to me. Surely a Bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush.

What area are you talking about Eve? As in the Consume area most of the bar/restaurants encourage people just to sit and have a drink, I no the grey area may be different as it is mostly restaurants.

Linda I rang up a certain bar last night and asked about drinking only, as they were having entertainment and I was told we would have to stand at the bar. I do not want to name these people as I understand they have a living to make but they may recognise themselves and do something about it. We have never been in the bar and we wanted to go in and have and look to see what it was like and have a look at the food they were dishing up. As we are not people who just sit in bars for the sake of drinking we wanted to go in when there was entertainment on. We would have reported back to the gang and perhaps had a night out there sometime with a meal.

OK Eve and you have personally told me who it was which is a shame.

Another local bar/restaurant had entertainment on last night and although they sold tickets for a 3-course meal they also advertised that people were welcome to also come just for a drink and enjoy the entertaiment and that was J's Bar.

The bar/restaurant in question has not been open very long, and ok it seems to be doing quite well at the moment, but there will come a time when they will be only too pleased to have people coming in for a few drinks. Eve and Tom usually have a bottle of wine (sometimes 2), so this restaurant is in effect saying that as they are not purchasing food ie a burger or whatever, they have to stand all night. How ridiculous is that? Both Eve & Tom are elderly retired pensioners (sorry Eve but you are). What about other people who have illnesses/disabilities and would be unable to stand for very long. I think it should be if you get there earlier enough you should be able to sit at a table and have a drink. It actually wouldn't affect myself as when we go out we always have a meal, but that's not the point. I will be very interested in a reply back from this restaurant as they do advertise in our Events section. They are doing themselves no favours by this stipulation of standing at the bar just to drink.................................

Its free for you guys to have a table and free for the public to come. Sorry I havent popped into the shop to see you about this but when I finish work you are closed.
