Had a couple of hours on the phone going between numbers 191218/7777 and 1999. Each time being told it was another department. Eventually I got a BIT worked up and told the last girl to get manager to ring me. She told me they didn't ring abroad so I advised her it was obviously fine for pensioners to ring UK 4 times. She found a manager and he's just rung me back.
He told me surprise surprise, I'm not the only one having this problem and his solution is. DON'T PRESS ANY BUTTONS FOR SERVICE. SIT ON THE PHONE AND I'LL BE PUT THROUGH TO A REAL PERSON AND THEY WILL KNOW HOW TO CONNECT ME. Lord almighty, this is called progress. People lose their jobs and claim benefits and lose their dignity, therefor don't pay taxes. Oh yes, progress.
I'll keep you posted when I ring tomorrow, today I can't take any more

Poppy, just tried that number and was told it was only for people living in UK. The latest advice was to download the application form and fill it in and send it back, but they ask which is your country or residence England Ireland Scotland or Wales. We've decided to fill it in but it does say you have to agree that you're a UK resident. Tomorrow I'm going to try the "Don't press any option buttons". I'm not a young thing but I've run 2 businesses can still tie my own shoelaces and pull up my own knickers. I know today is Thursday and that Cameron is Prime minister. I'm beginning to think that this is personal. Am I the only one ???????????????
