You need to explain the charity in question.
What people are going to have to realise is bars and establishments hold fundrasiers to get customers in, nothing more nothing less, plus it helps the receiving charity get more people attend the better the venue.
Spain is in sh&t street when it comes to collecting money or taxes it's owed. There are a lot of people / groups of all sorts collect funds that are donated but do not pay taxes. The government will come after these or change the law.
There are 9 charities / groups that operate in La Marina Urb, wether they have a shop or market stall or just collect donations. They are K9 club, SAT,Paul Cunningham nurses, PAWS animal rescue, Finca lucendum, Impact Charity, Pets In Spain, butterfly's, Dogs r Us.
That is just on this Urb. They all have there purpose and reason but how many of them are legal. Everyone gives up there time to make charities work and it is hard work. There has only been two charities that really use this forum, SAT and Impact. Not so long ago Impact revealed there figures for the last 3-4 years, other charities need to follow suit in my opinion or at least go to the shops and ask to see as it is your right.

I could not agree with you more. Fundraising in bars and restaurants normally follow the procedure of handing the donations over to an authoritive figure. Presenting an enlarged check in order to show the help we as donators have done. In recent events this however was not done raising my concern.

Andi, as you know and didnt mention that I collect money for The Needy of San Fulgencio and La Marina and when we buy food for these people all receipts are left in the Town Hall in Calle Madrid. We do not hand over money to these people. Thanks

I would also just like to point out that when we bars give money to charities it isnt always in the form of a "presentation" we just hand it over and later recieve a certificate/reciept for the money. For example, all money we have collected for the EMAUS charity we have passed on and then we recieve a certificate showing all the charity details ( eg their registered number, etc) and the amount we have raised. We then display this in the bar for a period of time. You should ask to see some kind of proof like this if your in any doubt.
Same goes for all collection tins in the bar, they arecollected, dual counted, and a reciept is given to us for us to display or show to anyone who asks.
Obviously each charity may work differently, but have you asked the venue that held this event for some proof. Or where possible ask the charity themselves.

I go into Jeff's Office on at least 5-6 occasions every week, I will not explain why as it is besides the point, but you can walk in there any time and see the amount of food they have there for the needy. This food comes from public donations and fundraising and is allocated to the needy by the staff. It is very easy to sit back and criticise. Is it human nature to assume that all do-gooders do not do anything out of the goodness of their hearts. Its a sad world we live in when people think that no-one does anything for nothing. We are not all money orientated on this urbanisation. I have twenty volunteers at the shop besides a lady who donates and sells a lot of cakes at our 2 fetes every year, to prove this is not true, and this is only one charity. So before you start casting aspirations, I suggest you get your facts right.

I have a pretty good idea who the start of this post is regarding but at end of day like its been pointed out of people have any doubts then they should go ask.

I am fully aware of charitable functions that take place that do donate to charity my support is behind them 100%. What my concern is, we contribute our money for these causes and it may be going into suffering bars/restaurants not charity locals. I fully intend to ask Jeff to investigate this matter. Bars and Restaurants should provide proof as they are businesses that are currently struggling due to lack of tourism. My question is how this has failed to be noticed. We are not providing for peoples financial problems, we provide for you good people that do exactly what they aim. To help.

Margaret if this charity as you say, is non existent then I am surprised that it was not picked up, by someone, before the event took place. All local Charities are well known on the Urb and the people who regularly read this forum know that money is being raised for the needy. In fact when it was first mentioned on this forum the idea had a lot of support. If people are collecting money for any Charity other than the one's already mentioned then questions should surely have been asked before you gave your support.

Eve I just think its someone trying to course hassle again.
At the end of the day the regional government are now starting to come after end clamp down on non legal registered businesses. So they should be left to there jobs instead of people like Margaret and sometimes times kick off bout it.
