Twinning of Towns

How about twinning with La Marina! We could both benefit from this!

My opinion for what is worth,is that now is not the time to look around for a town to twin with.I find it hard to believe that we have lost our neat and tidy parks and gardens,our disposal area is open part time,our street lights are going out,and umpteen other things are being lost,because we have to cut costs to try to balance the books,and while all this happening the council is thinking of twinning with some town or the other.you will say that in the long run this will be advantageous to the people of La Marina,where as i think lets pull our belts in to overcome the poor finances of San Fulgencia and stop these silly ideas from starting.
Before we think of fun things lets get the money in the bank and retrieve some of what we are losing back.
This is not a game of monopoly,it is for real.
A lot of us have many thousands of euros invested in out properties etc.I dont want to put them in jeopardy when people move out in droves because of the place La Marina could become,and in doing so we end up giving our property away because that will be the only way out of what could become a dump,albeit with a twin somewhere or the other in some country or other.This council has got to wake up before we all go down with the ship

Why do people always have to look on the dark side of life. My motto is "you have to speculate to accumulate". If no one takes a few chances in life how can we expect to go forward. If our Parks and green Areas are not getting cleaned up then what is to stop a few able bodied people getting out and doing a bit of the tidying up themselves, after all the rubbish is the general publics in the first place. If i see rubbish out on the path by our bins i pick it up and put it in. It only takes a few seconds. I am sure there are quite a few people on the Urb who get bored from time to time. Why not expend your energy organising a sponsered litter picking up or something similar. it is surprising how good you would feel doing something useful instead of moaning. As far as twinning with a Town in England is concerned then surely if we could get people out here to visit it may help to sell a few houses. Think positive.

I was getting a bit worried ,as I had made a couple of comments on this forum without you dissing me,but it seems i was worrying for nothing,you are back to normal.
I was replying to jeff as he asked if we thought it was a good idea or not,I didnt diss the idea,all I said was lets get back what we have lost first and this council has got its cash flow under control.
As for the able bodied clearing up the parks and gardens,You dont really believe that would happen do you.
You missed out people holding torches in dangerous areas,to make up for the lost street lights.

WHY NOT

It does not do any harm to keep an eye on one's own patch does it? A little effort from those that can would go a long way. My little bit is that as I go on my morning walk, I knock off suckers from the Orange trees on the kerb side, as they are growing rather fast at the moment. It is a two way thing apart from the walking I am forced often to bend down to clear suckers. It all helps the waistband, plus of course, the orange trees.

Alan i was not getting at you, in particular. I just think that people could do a lot to help the Urb. When I lived down the bottom on Extramadura several residents made a garden on the Verdi, they have added to it over the years and if you go down that way you will see that it looks quite tidy. The people concerned were both British and German and they worked to put the area tidy. It would be nice if this happened all over the Urb. You do see pockets of areas where residents have done this, surely we all want the same things. To be proud of our surroundings. As for the torches, I was brought up in the country and torches were a necessity, no street lights for us.

Good to know you wasnt having a go at me in particulary.
But to my reasoning,If you had read Ians posting from two days ago,The Mayor of Morpeth stated that it could be too expensive to twin with San Fulgencio,add to that Jeff today that street lighting will be turned off to save money plus the council were promised money from Valencia to get a few local people back in work,and we were led to believe they would keep the gardens and parks tidy and clean.
something i have not as yet noticed.
plus other things which are being restricted or cancelled.All of this is for a good reason,we havnt got the money in the kitty to do it,We are not on our own everywhere in Spain and around Europe towns,cities even countries are almost bankrupt,it is not a time to spend money you havnt got especially on something new that would not be cost effective for many years if ever.
Yes i have noticed this little placesthat have sprung up,that are very pretty,but how many people will it take to clear the many parks and gardens,including childrens play areas,mini football and petanque areas etc.
Hope this helps you understand why I say to Jeff regarding twinning not at the moment,wait until the council has money to spend then and only then think about twinning

The one place I think it is very dangerous to turn off the lighting is the Consum Square. Many people walk across there at night and some of the cars drive around there at ridiculous speeds. Also I think the square should be marked out as a one-way system, there is an accident waiting to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the Twinning Idea, As the whole process of Twinning can take anything from 6 months to 2 years, this was an idea for the future. Eve's comment was one of the valid reasons for making this enquiry.I also agree totally with Alan's comments about getting the finances in order as a priority. The idea will not be thrown out but no action on it, is likely to be taken for some time.
