flying ants

Today, in my "Me time" (12 till 2) I was as usual sitting in my lovely little garden with my book and my beer when I noticed large flying ants apparently being blown in by the strong wind. They were honestly almost an inch long including their wings. Then small flying ants were blown in. There seemed to be a relationship between them. I was fascinated. The small ants appeared to be trying to get the big ants to carry them around as they kept jumping on their backs. I thought the small ants were trying to take over the world that the large ants appeared to own. I called out the lovely Mr Smith to see what was going on as I thought it was an ant's mini war of the world. My lovely husband told me that the small ants were actually males and this was a mating game. Honestly, 71 and still living in a little bubble. My first husband (the gorgeous John now deceased) always told my kids that he'd kept me innocent. Sometimes I shock even myself. For the eyes of the ladies only. I didn't notice till Mr Smith told me, the males died once they'd had their way, mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I have to say though the male ants were small and wimpy x

I have noticed these ants, for about the last week.the big ones seem to land on my pool terrace with alittle thud,it was then the little ants appeared, but to me the big ants were giving birth to the little ones who then flew away.perhaps I am too naive as well. Each day I have scooped hundreds off of the top of the pool water where they lay looking quite dead, but when i cleared the nets they are still alive and obviously thought they would have a swim to freshen up.It would be quite interesting if anyone knows exactly what is happening

You have to watch more carefully Alan. Maybe the little ants appeared out of the big ones, or maybe the lovely Mr Smith just has a dirty mind. I really enjoy bringing some culture to this site. xx
