do you know what the schools are like in the area?
Ive heard that is like living in England but in Spain, would you say this is true? I do want my children to mix with Spanish kids and learn the language.
My son is nearly 10 and has been at the school since we moved here in 2005. He could speak no Spanish when we arrived and the first few weeks were terrible for him. Within weeks he started to learn the language and now speaks it as a native - if only I could!!
The education he gets is superb. Far better than what I remember getting at his age in the UK and I managed a few A levels.
The old school was a bit of a shambles but the new building is well equipped and has good dedicated teachers. I can't praise it enough.
My concern is the High school, which has a really bad reputation and there appears to be no plans in place for a permanent school of the quality of the primary school.
hi, I have 3 children, two go to primary school and one is in the institute (high school) in san fulgencio, and although there is a majority of english children in the schools there is also a lot of spanish children too, and the teachers only speak spanish to them so they pick it up very quickly, my children are aged 7, 9 and 14 and we have only lived in spain 3 years, they speak great spanish and are doing well at school, although in the begining there were a few problems with the language barrier, but the children soon understood and overcome this. My children mix with the spanish children and love it here.

Volunteer Moderator Needed
Volunteer Moderator
How often have you read in the local paper about an Event that you would have attended if you had known about it? If you are like most of us the answer would be quite often.
So we are now starting to attempt to put together all forthcoming events onto this Forum to be listed. It´s Completely FREE to all local businesses and Charity Organisations, but its finding this information that we need help with. If you go and look in the Events Section you will see that there are quite a lot of postings up there already, but we do need somebody who can dedicate themselves to keep an eye on things for everybody.
So we are looking for a Moderator to look after this particular section of the forum (La Marina Section) about forthcoming events and have posting powers to moderate this very important section of your local forum.
If you are interested in the above post to be a moderator please send details to
[email protected]
Oh! if I were there fulltime I'd go for it but sadly not. Good luck though what a forum. it is building so fast well done Carol and Ian

Its great to know whats going on before the Event, so we can actually go, instead of reading about it later in the local rag.

Aliens
Two aliens landed in the Arizona desert near a gas station that was closed for the night.
They approached one of the gas pumps and the younger alien addressed it saying, "Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Take us to your leader."
The gas pump, of course, didn't respond.
The younger alien became angry at the lack of response and the older alien said, "I'd calm down if I were you."
The younger alien ignored the warning and repeated his greeting. Again, there was no response.
Annoyed by what he perceived to be the pump's haughty attitude, he drew his ray gun and said impatiently, "Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Do not ignore us this way! Take us to your leader or I will fire!"
The older alien warned his comrade saying, "You don't want to do that! I don't think you should make him mad."
"Rubbish," replied the cocky, young alien. He aimed his weapon at the pump and opened fire. There was a huge explosion. A massive fireball roared towards them and blew the younger alien off his feet and deposited him a burnt, crumpling mess about 200 yards away in a cactus patch
About a half hour passed. When he finally regained consciousness, he refocused his three eyes and straightened his bent antenna and looked dazedly at the older, wiser alien who was standing over him shaking his big, green head.
"What a ferocious creature!" exclaimed the young, fried alien. "He damn near killed me! How did you know he was so dangerous?"
The older alien leaned over, placed a friendly feeler on his crispy friend and replied, "If there's one thing I've learned during my intergalactic travels, when a guy has a penis he can wrap around himself twice and then stick it in his ear, you don't want to mess with him!"
Elche Mall
I thought I would have a few hours off work yesterday and went in to Elche Mall. There is such a huge car park plus underground car parking which is completely FREE. It is so lovely just to wander round the shops and not have to worry if you are going to exceed 2 hours or 4 hours or whatever (like England) and then the car parks just rip you off if you go a few minutes over what you are allowed. That in itself is stressful isn't it? Because I didn't have to pay extortionate car park money, I treated Ian to a Kentucky Fried chicken takeaway which he loves.......Naughty but Nice he he

I personally do not have school age children, but my friend's little boy goes to San Fulgencio School and, although there are quite a few English children, the majority are Spanish. He is now 8 and doing extremely well. He has picked up the Spanish language very well (unlike his parents) !! He is very happy there and has English & Spanish friends which is brilliant !!
