Has anyone the email address for any of the Taxis on the Urb?

Surprised that no one has this piece of information. Hasn't anyone got one of their cards?

Commented Douglas in La Marina 2011-06-02 17:29:47 UTC

When you come off the N332 at Gran Alicant, drive straight keeping Lydls to your right, at the roundabout take 3rd exit and it is at the top of that road.

´SPLENDOUR OF SPAIN¨, Music, Arts & Craft Festival Sat 4th & Sunday 5th 11am - 6pm

If you have a few hours to spare on the weekend, pop down to Casa La Pedrera the Grand Design House and soak up the atomosphere of the Music, Arts & Craft Festival. It runs all day until 6 and there is an opening and a closing performance both with a spanish flavour. If you have never experienced the true ´flamenco´ you need to be here at 4.00pm on Saturday to see the ´Gypsey King´ from Sevilla, who is the real deal. He has a huge spanish following and has never played to english before, so we need to show him that we can ´Fiesta´like the rest of them. So tell all your friends, there is plenty to see and do, craft fair, art exhibition, and for the kids pony, quad rides and our hay ride with trips to the lake. An all day bbq, plus wood fired paella in the true Valencian tradition. The raffle prizes truly amazing and includes hand made jewellery, paintings etc. & all those entering receiving a free sample of the spanish Liquor, Licquor 43... So much to do, see and hear,,, you cannot afford to miss it!!! We are less than 15 mins from Quesada, quickest way is jump onto the AP7 towards Categena, and take the next exit which is Los Montesinos, follow the signs for Orihuela/Bigastro and its just left after the Vista Bella/La Fortaleza Rest. or simply drive right through Los Montesinos, over the motorway again following the signs to Bigastr/Orihuela. There will be signs off the CV95 to turn into the CV950 just after the restaurants. See our website www.thingstodoinspain.info and click on contact us and then on find us or call 660816620... Jenni

school

Hi celebration cakes!
Just wondered how I get the kids in school, is it pretty straight forward we are coming in November, have no schooling sorted out. We are just taking the plunge!

La Marina

My daughter is 13 and she is the one im worried about! even though she is not worried...

Commented karen in Almoradi 2011-06-03 08:42:24 UTC

Hi again, when we came over our oldest was almost 12, he was the one we was worried about the most with the language, but he learned it quicker than the younger two lol. If your living on Urb. La Marina there are school buses which take them into school. its relitavely easy to get them into school, but you all must have N.I.E. numbers, once you have these you just go to the the school with all your papers, i.e. passports, nie numbers, passport size photos of each child etc, and normally they start vurtually immediately.

hope this helps (p.s. take a translator with you tho, they do speak a little english but to save on time would be more easier for all if you took one, I have friends here who are fluent spanish who charge a minimal amount to do this).

Also amongst your paperwork you will need to take utility bill, padron or other forms of identitiy for where you live, thus enabling you to get free school buses to and from school.

All the best, if I can help in any other matters please let me know.

Commented Celebration Cakes La Marina in La Marina 2011-06-03 09:31:47 UTC

thanks for that, I dont even know how to get the N.I.E numbers??? but im sure because there are so many English people in La Marina someone?? will be able to help me when I get there. Im hoping anyway. Would you mind if I contact you nearer the time so maybe your friend could help once I get to the schools?

Thanks

Karen
Sorry one more question my youngest is Five,im not so sure about her getting on a school bus on her own, and I dont drive?? are there public buses that go to the schools?

Commented karen in Almoradi 2011-06-03 09:41:26 UTC

dont worrie about your little one, children get on the bus as little as 3 years old, there is a monitor and a driver always on the bus. NIE numbers are quite straight forward, they are issued at Elche Police station and can take a few weeks, they were 18euros per person when we got ours, but that was over 3 years ago now. Iam sure once you arrive there are lots of people here who can help.

Ta very much everyone.............

La Marina

I really am surprised that more owners don’t let out their properties that they are trying to sell. Seems crazy that so many sell at way below market price and often lose a great deal of money. This way, owners would get an income coming in for quite a few months while the market is picking up.

Commented Douglas in La Marina 2011-06-02 17:42:13 UTC

Yes, quite agree Douglas. So, if any of you have a property standing empty for months on end please let us know and we could possibly rent it out for you !!

New Shoes

I thought I would treat myself this morning, so I *escaped* from the office and went down to Scooby Doo (nr Iceland) and got myself some new sandals. I thought I deserved to spoil myself he he

La Marina

It's actually called Shoe-B-Shoe and it also has a great cafe where a bored husband can have a coffee and cake for a great price whilst the wife spends hours looking at shoes. And no - I'm not the owner!!!

Commented David in La Marina 2011-05-30 17:51:56 UTC

do you know what the schools are like in the area?
Ive heard that is like living in England but in Spain, would you say this is true? I do want my children to mix with Spanish kids and learn the language.

La Marina

I personally do not have school age children, but my friend's little boy goes to San Fulgencio School and, although there are quite a few English children, the majority are Spanish. He is now 8 and doing extremely well. He has picked up the Spanish language very well (unlike his parents) !! He is very happy there and has English & Spanish friends which is brilliant !!

Commented Carol in La Marina 2011-05-11 17:11:02 UTC

My son is nearly 10 and has been at the school since we moved here in 2005. He could speak no Spanish when we arrived and the first few weeks were terrible for him. Within weeks he started to learn the language and now speaks it as a native - if only I could!!
The education he gets is superb. Far better than what I remember getting at his age in the UK and I managed a few A levels.
The old school was a bit of a shambles but the new building is well equipped and has good dedicated teachers. I can't praise it enough.
My concern is the High school, which has a really bad reputation and there appears to be no plans in place for a permanent school of the quality of the primary school.

Commented David in La Marina 2011-05-30 18:05:17 UTC

hi, I have 3 children, two go to primary school and one is in the institute (high school) in san fulgencio, and although there is a majority of english children in the schools there is also a lot of spanish children too, and the teachers only speak spanish to them so they pick it up very quickly, my children are aged 7, 9 and 14 and we have only lived in spain 3 years, they speak great spanish and are doing well at school, although in the begining there were a few problems with the language barrier, but the children soon understood and overcome this. My children mix with the spanish children and love it here.
