Restaurant Bavarius (behind Super Valu, opposite medical centre)

A couple of people had recommended the German restaurant "Bavarius" behind Super Valu, so I suggested to my wife and a friend that we try it tonight.

Big mistake!

My meal was spare ribs and chips.

Firstly, you could have put the tiny portion of micro-chips in a coffee cup!

Secondly, the ribs were tragically overcooked, to the point of being totally dried out and not really worth eating.

The whole meal (personal opinion) wasn't worth 99p, let alone €9.90.

Our friend was paying, and was (vaguely) satisfied with what she had eaten, so I couldn't withhold any of the bill, but I told the waitress exactly what I thought about what I had eaten. She seemed to know what I was going to say before I spoke, so I thought she had spotted the problem when she had brought the meal out. When she came back with our friend's change I asked her if she had told the management what I had said and she told me that yes, she had. Sadly nobody came out to speak to me or hear what I had to say.

Shan't be going back to Bavarius again, that's for sure.

Pity, because I really would like to find a restaurant on the urb that gives value for money. Nine years living here and still looking!

9 years looking for good value food geoff? i think you must be a hard man to please,...Bonnies and the Grill house are great value for money on the grey area,..the food is really good, as is the food at El matador on the strip,..but i must say i have heard mixed reports on Bavarus,..my neighbour loves the place,..but then other friends have slated their food for being too small a portion and all the flavour cooked out of it,..so on this i think i will take your comment on board and give the place a big miss.

Why not give us a try at the Hog's Head with our new head chef, I think you will find us very competative & excelant value for money with a service that matches.

im so surprized as every time i have eaten there the food has been 10/10 and the amount was always to much never had any complaints and i have many friends who say the same

Myself and my husband like nice food, we are all for quality rather than quantity. We have been to the Hogs head on many occasions, sometimes twice in one week. We have always enjoyed our meals especially The Gammon, The Chicken New York and the Steak. The Steak pie is so large I would not attempt it but hubby said it was lovely. Give them a try as on Thursday & Saturdays you get good entertainers as well.

We think your food is excellent Mel. But a couple of times recently we have come there to try it, only to be put off by a noisy football match. Honest opinion!

Yes mel we have tried your food we had my husbands birthday party there. Probably one of the cheapest and best meals on the urb.

We have had many good evenings at The Final Whistle and the food is excellent and such a good choice. It is always best to call in to see whether or not football will be on - we wouldn't go on these nights, but obviously we are really in the minority. The owners and staff are extremely friendly here and nothing is too much trouble.
