San Fulgencio Mayor and four Councillors on corruption charges

ASL Member Founding Member Post #18980 Replies closed

The Spanish newspaper INFORMACION has reported that the Mayor and four of his Councillors, were in court on Monday on corruption charges, which allegedly took place last year. I got this information from Mark Lewis^·s website La Marina Info. It is of course no coincidence, that the Mayor and his Councillors were reported to the authorities by the two opposition parties,( Mark Lewis is a member of one of them).
Just how this Council has the front to carry on in power, If just a part of what is being said about them is true, If what is being alleged is not true then that makes the opposition a pack of liars.
I just hope that whatever the outcome, whichever of these people are corrupt or liars, that people will remember their names at voting time.
All I wish to see is a true and honest Council, and a true and honest Opposition, Surely that is not too much to ask for

There is Mark Lewis and another British opposition councillor in San Fulgencio that lives on the Urb, his name is Brian Deacon. I wonder how different things would be now if councillor Jeff had joined with their two party's for a coalition with the two other British councillors, instead he aligned with the eight Spanish PP councillors! In hindsight Jeff may regret his decision to effectively go it alone.

Yes Don, If only Jeff had made a different choice then, not only then but any time since, from how I see it, he always had the choice and still does of leaving the council and joining the Opposition, Which would make San Fulgencio Ungovernable, (i.e.8 votes for the Council 9votes in Opposition) Not knowing how Spanish politics work,I can only see two answers ,A new Council formed by the three parties in Opposition or a new election to form a new Council.
But at the moment ,with corruption charges flying about, it would be almost impossible for anything to happen.
I also wonder if the other Brit in Opposition ,Is the same brian who has written a few comments on this Forum, If so,I wonder if having both him and Mark as two Councillors, I gather the animals on the Urb. may get the cream at the expense of the humans.

Any more news on the court case yet? This affects us more than drivel about Briggs and the terrorist Mandiba Mandela.

I did look on the FB page of the Town Hall yesterday Peter, and it carried a video of the Mayor having a press chat outside the court house, unfortunately my Spanish is not anywhere near good enough to follow a conversation.
Perhaps someone bi lingual could have a look at it and put on this forum what was actually said.

Thanks Alan. There is a piece in the CBNews where they stated 4 councillors and one ex member of the PP council are accused in relation to payments totalling 150,000 euros to a football club.
As a member of San Fulgencio football club I know nothing about this.
I realise that everybody says 'I knew nothing!' but honest Guv, ' I know nothing!'
Lets hope this 'Sport subsidy' gets cleared up soon and we could do with the money for Christmas please Mr Mayor!

Peter,
I understand how you must be feeling about the news regarding a football club involved in receiving payments from our local Council.
So I dug a bit further, but have not been able to get a name of the Club involved, But I took a bit of time and had the information that appeared in "INFORMACION" translated and I am pretty sure it states that the Chairman of the Football Team involved, was also Secretary General, Treasurer of the PP, he was also on the list of candidates on the last Council Election
To my thinking (I have been known to be wrong)He was either a member of the PP prior to this Council, or he was on the list of candidates but lower in the list than the four selected in the current list.
Hope this may help in clearing up just which Football Club is involved.

Corrupt football club drivel to some

Hi Alan. I am wondering if the total amount is made up of possibly the rental of the pitch for all teams from infants, juniors, seniors, school teams etc. The watering and upkeep of the pitch, groundspeople, electricity and all associated costs involved in maintaining the pitch plus the cost of the kit given to all teams and the registration of players and the match day officials. The referee cost are 160 euros a game! The list goes on and on but put it over three years and it doesn't seem that much. I'm not sure but if it was broken down like this it is an answer. That would work out at 50k a year for all the teams. I do not know who was nominated as Chairman as there is no record of one and I was website manager for this year and the year before last.
Any more info would be good from anyone.

Hi Peter,
Can see your theory about the 150000 euro,But I am sure that "INFORMACION" mentioned several of these amounts being made. Of course it wouldn't be the first time a newspaper has got things wrong, or in fact that bing translation, has misunderstood something (i.e Jeffs surname has changed to Witold,on bing his surname changes to that name). Also it doesn't mention that a Local team is involved. I read some of the comments of this story in INFORMACION,and the person commenting worded it as Sporting football Club and La Marina Info site called it a Sports Club, INFORMATION called it a Football Club. Using these words, we are not being told much at all.
My main thought is that San Fulgencio's is yet again being dragged through the mud, by the current Council, or alternatively the people in Opposition, Either way, we the voting public should find out who are liars and make sure that none of the people involved ever get the chance to run our Council in the future

Should be interesting of what the opposition has to say if it forces the club to close. Maybe the pitch could be used for dog walking sessions.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-12-21

Now,now Marko behave yourself! It is an artificial pitch which is used predominately for the 'skool' children!
We do have quite a successful football team of which I am involved so I do know a lot of the comings and goings. I asked one of our councillors yesterday and he is going to report back to us as soon as anything more is known.
I will post with any update though.

I find it an incredible coincidence that when the money allegedly went missing, you appeared with your new car!

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-12-22

You swine you!!! How could you tell everyone I had a new car! Just because you lost at snooker again - today!

Seriously though folks there is a piece in the CBN where the opposition parties accuse three directors who are also members of the PP executive taking a monthly amount from the 'sports club'. They are the 'only directors'.
The sports club is not named though and further on it mentions 'the football club' again.
I thought I was VP of San Fulgencio Football Club but do not know about of any of this.

Don't believe John he is just sad because he lost again!!!
