The Train

A very good idea Ian. I am sure there are lots of ideas that could be used to make The Train a more viable proposition. The Urb needs people with very positive attitudes to bring it out of the doldrums. Along with making it easier for people to open up new business's. If things go on as they are, I predict that parts of La marina could become slum areas, with people walking away from their properties and going back to the UK. I know there are people who would be happy with that, but it will affect everyone if this happens.

Sorry but last year I saw the little train run empty, or nearly empty most of the time. With the current financial problems I would rather see the money spent elsewhere.

Sorry, I doubt there will ever be enough call for a tourist train, remember, La Marina is NOT a holiday resort, it's basically a residencial housing estate near the coast. Yes we get a few visitors during the summer, however most people who own property here also own a car. As for transport to the beach, well that comes under Elche, not San Fulgencio. Plus I am not sure how legal the train would be, I would assume that it would require the likes of doors to be fitted, not a piece of chain.

I personally agree with much of what is said in this article. The main problem was that the running of the train was unsustainable, despite the Town Hall subsidies. I would suggest that if the author is serious, he should draw up a business proposal and present it to the Town Hall. We are certainly open to all suggestions for improving the facilities in the area.

Santa Pola, Gran Alicant, Torevjecca and Elche all sustain bus services with Alicante Airport. A similar connection with the Urb./ San Fulgencio would be worthy of consideration – particularly if shared with one or more of the other areas above. One of the considerations of people when buying property is communications links and these are not brilliant at present to say the least. Quite a lot of properties on the Urb. are second / holiday homes – I wonder how may people a day travel to and from Alicante Airport? But getting here by public transport at present is not the easiest of tasks which puts our area at a quite a disadvantage.

While I agree with many things that have been said about the train and this area I still think it could work. Gran Alicant run a train all year round and that is not a tourist area and there are far less people there than here arent there?
Although many people do have cars there are occasions, like today, when I have had to walk home from work as the 2 cars in our household are at work with my husband and father. This is the 3 time I've walked home since Friday and I would happily have got on the little train ( very happily!!)What about the peolple who dont have transport and need to get down to Mercadona, Lidl Iceland etc.

I also agree that the train was a nice idea, however, with the schools here in spain not even being able to be heated, school meals and books being put at risk, I doubt anyone is prepared to plough money into an attraction rather than a necessity. However I do believe that La Marina has very little to offer in comparison to Guardamar that also has little money but still pulls out all the stops and makes the effort.

Also have noticed another you tube clip it does seem to me that Grand Alicante has a busy shopping area and can see the reason people would use it more with the near door to door transportation
