FIRST FINE FOR IGNORING THE RED FLAG

The amount is a hefty 1,000 Euro

As Alicante did earlier this month, Benidorm has now imposed its first fine to a swimmer who ignored the red warning flag flying on a local beach indicating that the waters were unsafe for bathing. It comes under a new local ordinance approved in March and, as a serious offence, is punished with a fine of 1,000 €.

Diario Información reports that other serious offences under the new ordinance include windsurfing while the red flag is flying and activities, such as harpoon fishing, which could put other swimmers at risk.

I think that's fair enough - it's for their own safety after all..........

I saw parents allowing their young children to go in the sea without supervision while the red flag was up... children!!! OK, they didn't go far out, but that isn't the point... if anything had happened to those children, whose fault would it have been??? The Red Cross's, for not getting there quickly enough no doubt...
