I've just read this on Facebook and agree what an excellent idea - even I'm going to do this.....
Message from the Ambulance Service
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending to us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

don't forget that we live in Spain and English is not the language understood by most people. In Spain there has been a campaign to use Aa, Avisar a, on your mobil phone. Not only is it a very good idea to use Aa. If you open your phonebook the first to appear is A.
If you try to read the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja Española) site you will understand. You don´t need to remove ICE. Keep it for other countries!

El Ministerio del Interior y Cruz Roja Española presentan la campaña “Aa” (Avisar a...)
El objetivo es lograr que los usuarios de teléfono móvil incluyan en su agenda el contacto Aa, seguido del nombre de la persona con la que habría que ponerse en contacto en caso de emergencia.
El ministro del Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, y el presidente de Cruz Roja Española, Juan Manuel Suárez del Toro Rivero, presentaron el pasado 15 de julio, la campaña conjunta de sensibilización 'Avisar a' (Aa).
El objetivo de la campaña es lograr que el mayor número posible de ciudadanos añada en la agenda de su teléfono móvil el contacto “Aa”, seguido del nombre de la persona a la que habría que llamar si ocurriera una emergencia. Así, ese número de teléfono aparecerá siempre como el primer contacto de la lista.
Apoyo a los servicios de emergencia y a los cuerpos de seguridad.
El contacto Aa permitirá a los servicios de emergencia y los cuerpos de seguridad contactar de forma rápida con el entorno de las víctimas de accidentes, personas que se encuentran en situaciones de urgencia o sin posibilidad de comunicarse. Ese puede ser el caso, por ejemplo, de un anciano que sufre un golpe de calor en la calle, un enfermo que pierde el sentido de la orientación, o una víctima de tráfico.
Sólo en 2007, más de tres millones de personas sufrieron algún tipo de emergencia en España, entre accidentes domésticos o en tiempo libre, laborales y de circulación.
La iniciativa de sensibilización cuenta con diversos materiales divulgativos, como un anuncio de televisión, cuñas radiofónicas, carteles y marcapáginas.
La campaña se enmarca en la estrategia de prevención de accidentes de Cruz Roja “Prevenir es Vivir”, y en concreto en el apartado de “prevención secundaria” de los siniestros o urgencias, cuyo fin es reducir al máximo sus consecuencias.
