Merry xmas and a happy new year (even to non believers)

замечания

It is nowhere near Christmas yet! Why is everyone trying to make it earlier and earlier each year? One of the things I loved about coming to Spain to live was that they wait till December and nearly Christmas before going on about it! You are trying to make it just like Britain,, where they start it all in September, ridiculous! It just spoils it and makes it not as special as it should be!

2nd Casa, a happy new year. What has that to do with believers or non believers? Must you be a believer to believe you will have a happy new year?

Do you have to believe in Christ, wasn't it a pagan celebration of the shortest day in the year new life and all that.

rose, you are right! And today only one week more and we are there. The shortest day and the longest night. And after that the beginning of the new year (astronomical) with more and more light. Something which has been celebrated long before Christianity.

Christianity hijacked our paganism, but if you look closely it is all still there bringing trees into the the home the yule log. I would not undermined anyone's religion. However I will be celebrating my pagan ways

Rose, I'll think you'll find bringing trees into the home even pre-dates Paganism. I think its called Winter......

Reindeer,
Thanks for the history lesson again, but I have it on good authority that the people in Iceland normally say "How can they charge €1.50 when it says £1 on the box".

Do you not think the Pagan faiths started to go downhill after they built Stonehenge next to a main road?

Happy New Year to you as well (something happened 2014 years ago, but can't think what)

Like your comment marko, but bet reindeer pretends not to understand a word of what you are talking about. So be prepared for another History lesson

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-12-15

Marko, if you pay someone for the tree do we then call it 'Winter fuel payment'?
