Doggy Bags

No not the kind we ask for in a restaurant. But free standing Red objects near to some parks. They seem to be full of FREE little plastic bags, just for the dog walker who forgot to take their own. How kind. BUT do not think that this will encourage those that just ignore their Dogs droppings as if it did not matter.

La Marina

Found our little red postbox this morning containing poo bags :)
Personally i buy a box of 200 nappy disposal bags, cheap as chips,
It seems like an awful lot of expense to go to for those who dont or forget to carry their own bags,
but maybe there is a hidden agenda, If there are enough red boxes (constantly being re-filled!!!)
Then on the spot fines for people that dont pick up would bring in loads of money for the Urb judging by the amount of s**t there is.

When I registered my two new dogs in the Police Station last week I was given 40 bags and told about these free bags. I cannot understand why some people find it so difficult to pick up their dog poo. The park area where youngsters are supposed to play, on Calle del Parque, are covered in the stuff. They seem to think that those little cobbles are put there especially for their dogs to do their business on. We need wardens going around issuing fines and telling people to put their dogs on leads or face prosecution. The law should apply to ALL nationalities, not just the chosen few.

Hear hear. Good common sense. This was mooted a long time ago but nothing happened. It would pay the wages of an unemployed person for six months and then when people were conditioned he/she could be moved to a different position or rented out to other councils!

momo I think you are just about right, this was done by some councils in England years ago. Firstly put the bi law in place then make sure people are know that they can be fined for not picking up dog poo .Lots of publicity so dog owners know what is happening, supple bags and bins lots of sighs. Then dog wardens, who for a time educate the people they find leaving dog poo on the ground. After a while start fining a few. That will create public awareness.
It worked very well in the town were I was a councillor.

Interesting that the new Dog Bag unit is now empty. Wonder if they will replace them and if so how long will it take?

Ian, in my opinion people who have dogs should provide their own doggie bags. The lady in the Police Station insisted i had mine when I registered the dogs. But, like all sensible dog owners, and there are a lot on the Urb, I do not rely on the Council to provide them for me. If you have pets you should be prepared to provide for them and clean up after them. Its no different to having children.

The dog bags are provided so that if someone get taken to court they cannot use the excuse O I forgot me bags.
