According to information provided by Jeff himself he claims approx. €3000+ per month for attending a few meetings. He is elected for a 4 year period which would mean that during his elected period we the people who voted him in will pay him approx. €150,000.

Friendlyviking Perhaps seeing as you are so good with figures you would be so kind as to inform us what the last councilor spent in his 4 year term?? And you could also enlighten us to what that councilor achieved for the Urbanisation.

Just a few points about 30 kph Speed Limits. In the 10 years I have lived here I have not heard of one pedestrian being killed on this Urb. Correct me if I am wrong. It is the pedestrian crossing that are my problem here. When are drivers supposed to stop. I have had drivers actually drive over the crossing when I have been walking on it. I think this is one issue that needs looking at and also pedestrians "Jay Walking". There does not seem to be a mutual respect between car drivers and pedestrians.

They do use them.......when they park on them!!!

I do think the conversation is a bit pointless, id sooner go a bit slower than risk killing a child. you get there in the end, just chill out. Another point is some pavements on the Urb a mother with a pram cant use them as there are posts etc in the middle. So I for one think we do live in a built up area and speed limits should be reduced. If the police get on top of speeders it may give the bars and restaurants a break.

Jetscapes I totally agree that speed needs to be reduced. Some people drive along with total disregard for anyone else. The only thing is, and I speak for myself, I am so busy watching my speedometer now that i could miss someone walking in front of me. After driving for 50 years I can gauge 30 miles an hour in built up areas but, 30 kilometres is almost impossible without constantly looking at the speedo.

I might be missing the point that you are making here? What is the relationship between the new speed limits and the success of your or anyone elses business?

A better way to help protect pedestrians would be to paint the pedestrian crossing so drivers can see them.

Well I know someone I wouldn't have to paint them. Friendly Viking, the point was made clearly in my post. read it again and think about it. The speed limits are there now so we just have to slow down and live with them, I have to be honest a man drove past our house the other day and must have been doing 60 mph. I think the one coment is right. better to paint the stop lines on junctions and make them more clear.

And please, if the Council get round to painting white lines, could they use some proper paint like they've just done on the N332, and not some old tins of emulsion they found at the back of the shed !

here we go again,....jescapes turning another conversation on this forum back onto the situation with the bars,...what has the speed limit got to do with the success of your or any other bar on the urb? I sympathise with the bar owners for all the mess going on regarding noise,..but to basically say I hope the police will go after motorists and leave my business alone is stupidity of the highest calibre. I have just come back to the urb for a holiday,...and it's nice to see nothing has changed on this forum,...yes the whole infrastructure of the urb is a mess, narrow footpaths on main roads with lighting columns stuck in the middle of them, cheap paint used as road markings,..foreigners driving how they please or how they would back in their own country,...the roads in oasis where my house is looks like a mine field or somewhere in Beirut,...there should be no compromise where safety of pedestrians and motorists are concerned,....but it simply doesn't work like that over here.

Speed limits on Urbanisation Marina



It has been the case for many years that residential areas have a speed limit of 30km/h. This is according to law RD 339/1990 Ley de Tráfico & Seguridad Vial. There are many 30km/h signposts around the urbanisation. It was also recently authorised for the painting of the signs on the residential roads to make people more aware of the law.



National Autónomo Police



After receiving anonymous denuncias against the bars stating that there are many bars without legal paperwork, Valencia has ordered that the National Autónomo Police come onto the Urbanisation to investigate. This is a separate issue to that of live music. Last year there was a meeting with the bars. At this meeting the issue of opening licenses was raised and bar owners were asked to ensure that their paperwork was in order. Many failed to do so.

The inspections are happening NOW and will look at :

- Opening license (or proof that it is in progress);

- Insurance;

- Fire extinguishers (full and legally checked)

- Clear fire exits.

All paperwork must be kept on the premises.

We advise anyone who has been waiting for a long time to resolve any paperwork issues to put themselves in contact with the Technical Department of the Townhall.

There is a meeting on Monday the 10th of June at 11.30am in the Social Centre for ALL bar owners. Present will be the National Autónomo Police, the Chief of the Local Police, Mayor and Councillor for the Urbanisations.

We advise all bar owners to attend.

Después de recibir denuncias anónimas contra los bares declarando que existen muchos bares sin documentos legales, desde Valencia se ha ordenado que la Policía Autónoma venga a la Urbanización a investigar. Realmente el problema ahora no es ya el de la “música en vivo” ; ahora el problema radica en que los bares necesitan tener una documentación mínima para evitar problemas:

- Licencia de apertura. (Quienes no la tengan deben solicitar que el Servicio Técnico les extienda un documento que indique que la misma se encuentra en trámite)

- Seguro de responsabilidad civil

- Extintores en regla.

- Salida de emergencia

El año pasado hubo una reunión con los bares. En esta reunión se habló del tema de las licencias de aperturas y se pidió a los dueños de los mismos que pusieran en orden su documentación: Muchos no lo hicieron.

El lunes día 10 de junio a las 11;20 h. habrá una reunión en el Centro Social de la Urbanización para todos los dueños de bares. Asistirá la Policía Autonómica, el Jefe de la Policía Local, el Alcalde y el Concejal de Urbanizaciones. Aconsejamos a todos los dueños de bares que asistan a dicha reunión.

Just accept the fact that 30KPH is the speed limit on all roads on the urb, slow down and that will be the end of it. I think it is fair to say "we have been warned" and at some point very soon the police are going to set about enforcing it and you/we can argue all you like but you will pay up. In my hometown in UK we have 20Mph speed limits on all housing estates and 15Mph at or near schools and nurseries.
It is the law deal with it.

I think the 30km/h is a silly thing but I also understand why. I was in a car other night and its very stupid speed, 18mph. I also agree with it I some ways. As a younger I saw my brother get mowed down by a jaguar doing 45mph it threw him up in the air and he landed on the curb. The driver did stop but he took a pasting from my brothers friends. I saw the accident happen with my own eyes and it was disturbing. There will be a huge crash on this Urb one day and someone will lose there life. It's not so much to do with speed. It's a la k of police officers enforcing the law here. I've seen many a times the guardia civil pull speeders over on the Urb but the local police don't. There is no need for speeding like a lunatic but there's also no need for a 30km/h limit. It's all about driving sensibly and reacting to what is around you. I agree, why can't the paint used at junctions be yellow instead of white. Then maybe people will see it clearer. No money should be spared when it comes down to people's safety.

I have done the 30kms per hour on the Urb. the car dose not get out of 2nd gear, also a friend of mine has a automatic car and that car does not know what gear to go in. I have just spoken to a friend in the UK and where she live is a big housing estate 6 Iit´s 20 mph near the school and 30 mph else where. I do hope that this new speed limit knackers the councilors cars up.

What a stupid speed limit 3O KPH. 40 what have been a lot better. this new speed limit will cause more pooblems then solve them. When you cannot get out of second gear it is no way to drive. The police should to looking for people driving over the limit every night and trying to close bars down, instead of trying to trap motorist.

Im not fussed either way about the speed limit really. What I would actually love to see here is the police stopping people more often and checking if they were over the limit for drink. Practically every driver on this urb thinks its ok to have a drink and then get behind the wheel. Would they do it in the UK....no I doubt it. These are not just people who have holiday homes here, but those who live here all year round. Then there are those who use a mobility scooter so they can get home when they have had a drink, ok you dont hear of them causing many accidents, but it doesnt make it right and I do know of people who have done this and caused injury to themselves, with one person I know going over the handle bars ( or whatever you call them)!!

A better way to protect pedestrians would to be to move all pedestrian crossings from the junctions to a more appropriate place. One of these days a pedestrian will get mowed down if they don't.

You miss read my comments I Said " Trying to close bars down ". I am one of the many people who love love to see La Marina thrive as own property prices have done down as well as everyone else. But making it harder for people to drive at a relaxing pace. Not picking up drivers who drive over the legal limit of alcohol and running around at night TRYING TO CLOSE BARS DOWN, will not bring people to LA Marina. On the subject of house prices going down, if the roads in the El Osias area were repaired ( As promised by the council before they were elected) we might see an up surge in the housing market.

Nicki, I agree with you about drink drink drivers. When we rarely go out my husband will not drink and drive and I get very annoyed that people who I know do. Most of these are lovely people and if they hurt anyone they'd regret it. Why can't they have a bit of common sense and realise they could kill someone like us. Get the police out by rhe bars late at night and get the drunk drivers, not people going over 30 km. Lets all try and make La Marina safe.

Well said mazza. When myself & my husband go out, we choose places in walking distance. If we do go to Hillside we have a taxi both ways. If one of us injured or killed anyone, while under the influence of drink, we could not live with ourselves. It would be bad enough to do it whilst sober. If I did this I would never again get behind the wheel of a car.

Why does Mazza think that her husband is a saint for not drinking and driving but is happy for him to drive over thirty on an urbanisation, schools as well I wonder?
I live on an urbanisation where we have no pavements, if a child or a cat or dog walked out, they would be mown down, even 30 km is too fast. A speed limit is a maximum not a target!

Ron, my husband doesn't drive above the speed limit. Wherever you got that idea from you're wrong. However I can't believe a 30 km limit on our roads is justified, but of one thing I can assure you. Whatever the law is in any way, hubby will accept and abide by it. He will also help charities and his fellow man. I think I may have missed your point. Are you saying it's better to drive drunk than to exeed the speed limit?, No, I don't think so, but you offered a very silly arguement so forgive me for treating it this way. However A CAR IN THE HANDS OF A DRUNK iS A POTENTIAL MURDER WEAPON. I know speeding can harm but at least a sober person can make a measured decision.

So whats the problem? You voted him in!! If you fancy the job and the money, put yourself forward the next time voting comes around. Stop winging.

Can someone please confirm with me who is going to enforce the 30 km speed limit, do the Policia Local have the necessary equipment installed in their vehicles to confirm your speed or is it just the Guardia Civil. ?? in the UK I think it is only the Traffic Police who can enforce, and not the local plod = please correct me if I'm wrong..just a thought

Well Alan, I was refering to the comment by Friendlyvikin at the beginning of the thread and hadnt realised how many comments had been made since. I must admit, Im not into politics but then this forum is not about politics but peoples views.

I do find the comments on certain posts do go on a bit and I haven't got time to read them all as I find I fall asleep, but I get your drift. I have commented on Friendlyvikin's latest post as he desrves what he gets.

Whether or not the 30kph speed limit is brought in is, to my mind, slightly irrelevant to the issue of how many people believe the car is king. I have read comments about cars not being made to go so slowly, and how it is unnecessary to lower the limit.
If everyone kept to the existing speed limits then they´d probably be less lives lost. So what if it were lowered and the cars´ engines lasted a little less time... if it saves one life, then it´s worth it.
It´s time to change the way we think and put PEOPLE first before our machines

I cannot give an answer as to who will or attempt to enforce the speed limit on the urbinisation, but I can assure you that every serving police officer in the UK and their civillian counterparts ( the ones who sit in vans on fly overs etc) who have been trained to use various types of speed monitoring devices and that said these are calibrated and checked.Sorry I cannot be specific re the Urb but i will be doing 30kph and if others want to pass me or take the chance so be it.
Cars have gear box's as well as accelerators as a rule I would say depending on car and enginge size 30kph = 2nd or 3rd gear

Yes I understand what you are saying and I agree - but if Policia Local do not have vehicles that have the correct calibrated equipment, then how can they enforce the issue.
And the staff sitting on Motorway bridges in the UK are fully trained RPU's... not civilians

Souxie appreciate your comments but at one such calibration test i seen a brick wall doing 14mph lol (truth) the cars do not need equipment they would probably use hand held radar guns if it was the local or the CDU units if trained.

Hand held radar is fair game - but if the Policia Local followed me and tried to stop me for speeding they would have a problem with trying to prove their case. I agree with the 30km dont get me wrong so long as they implement it in the correct way. I did however try and keep to 30 km yesterday in my very small car, and I have to say it doesnt do much for my gearbox. But hey ho

It might be 30 KPH on the Urb, but where I live, in Marina Del Mar, Fase 1, it's 20 KPH !! That's about 12 MPH I think.

Hi Alan. Yes we are a community, and i've been to a few meetings and usually get the Minutes posted anyway, but i've never seen anything about us voting for a limit of 20 KPH.

Friendlyviking my patience has run out it is clear either the current councilors expenses are transparent . And the previous were not because after a week you can still not give an answer to the simple question How much was the previous councilors expenses over his last term in office and what exactly did they achieve for the urbanisation. I note your comments this morning that your husband was working on it. Can I suggest this is like a constipated mathematician and is trying to work it out with a pencil.

Has a visitor to the area for a number of years now and using the community pool No 2 ,I have recently found that this summer it has been in bad repair.My partner has lived here for 12 yrs and believes the pool is not maintained to standard. The grouting around the shower area is practically dangerous with copious amounts of grout around the pool itself. Also the pool not only around the rim needs a generous power wash the whole pool itself needs to be totally emptied and jet washed throughout,as the whole pool tiles are totally grouted with dirt.
