LA MARINA “HACKERS” GOLF SOCIETY
Phew what a week! Wednesday 14th December we played our normal monthly stableford, on this occasion at El Plantio Golf Club followed by, on Thursday, our Annual Christmas Dinner and Presentation Evening at Ramon’s on La Marina Urbanisation.
As always we received a warm welcome from the girls at El Plantio where the cards and buggies were waiting outside of reception. The weather was a little cooler than normal and very comfortable for the players. We were in good time and so we had a few practice swings and putting practice before our tee times.
The members were called to a specially convened meeting on the first tee five minutes before we were due off. One of our members tragically lost his wife in October of this year, in her memory the Society has inaugurated the “Ulla-Britt Kindberg Briggs Memorial Trophy” which will be played for annually in November.
There was a good turnout from the members and on this occasion we were joined by two guests, one of whom Lyn Young was the first lady ever to play with our society. She has already made it quite clear that she wants to play in our next match and I am confident that by that time she will have become a member. So, come on ladies get those clubs out of the garden shed and come and play golf with us!
After a long and hard day on the course the following results were declared:

After the game we returned to our 19th hole on La Marina Urbanisation for the prize giving, a few well earned beers and a fine buffet supplied by Jackie and John Lowe, the publicans.
28 players and guests attended the Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening at Ramon’s restaurant in La Marina Urbanisation on the evening of 15th December where we started the evening with a beautiful set meal of starters and mixed grill for the main, not to mention the Christmas Crackers and the wine and beers which were flowing throughout the entire evening.
Corky Corcoran won the award for Player of the Year and the award for Most Improved Player was shared by Ian Hilary and Kjell Dahl. It is worth mentioning that neither Ian or Kjell had even played a round of golf before our society was formed in February 2011 and now they are regularly scoring 20 or more points at each stableford we play.
The meal was followed by a raffle which was so well supported that everyone at the meal left with a prize.
