Dog / Cat Tags

Hola Andrew, It is ture that it´s san fulgencio by law. I have been informed that I will be fined if the dogs do not have they tags on John or myself or anyone who walks the dogs. It is also san fulgencio by law that all cats get tagged. But I asked Jeff where do I put the tags on my cats when they don´t wear collars. I did make a suggestion ( up there behind)

Well said Andi - who the hell do they think they are and I dont even live on the Urb - have they said what needs to be on the tag, size, colour etc - if I tried to put a tag on my cat he would go beserk and probably try and leave home anyway - stupid - money grabbing sods

On the subject of Tags. I am led to believe that this was made a legal requirement by the previous Administration. The Police are checking on animals to ensure that they have the required documentation. I am fully aware that many are already chipped. The Police do have a Chip reader. When Susan was in the office today she was rather upset about the letters and telephone calls from the Town Hall. I can only say that I did not say that the Town Hall was not short of money, we all know what the state of the finances are here and almost every other Municipality in Spain. I agree it is very difficult to tag cats, but we must still ensure that they all have the relevant paperwork for their injections etc. The cost of tagging was initially €3, for the Tag, but the Registration is now €12 plus the cost of the tag. So far there have been a number of animals reunited with their owners because of the Tag Scheme. Also it is a fact that warnings are been given . Education before Legislation.

We adopted out wonderful dog Sara Dos 12 weeks ago from S.A.T, who did a fantastic job, as she had been badly abused, through their initial care and our care and love she is now a healthy dog, who has had all of her vacinations for a year, has been chipped and got her passport.

And I no of many dog owners who have done and are doing exactally the same as us.

In the last few weeks 2 dogs, that i know of, have been re-united with their owners. This was after a lot of time and trouble by the SAT kennels, SAT shop, Police and even Ray from the launderette. If their owners had paid the initial 3 euros to have a registered dog tag, they would have been re-united with their owners within hours of being lost. The one little dog, it seems, was lifted over the wall of its owners garden and put out to wander. The owners had spent days walking the Urb to find it. On the one hand people are saying they don't want their animals to land up in the dog pound, on the other hand, they don't want to pay to prevent it. We all have dogs by choice and we should be prepared to do everything in our power to protect them. The only way they can talk to people when they are lost is by identification, so what is the big issue.

So if I have no choice but to get these tags for my pets ( even though there is not a chance of one of my cats actually wearing the thing) then please tell me why initially this cost €3 but now costs €12 plus whatever the tage costs. I have 4 pets that would need these tags and quite frankly I think its just a case of trying to fleece us of more money. So now I dont see the point in having had the microchips done. If you dont plan on traveling with your pet then why bother with them.
Im also interested to know how many other area's of Spain run this scheme?

I have mentioned this a few times on this forum,that I am not a dog owner but am an animal lover.
My strong belief is that the tag system is basically a good idea,the fault with it is the pricing.
Strays at the moment cost this council 130 euros to be taken to a dog pound.
A tag costs 3euros,Why do the council want 12euros almost clear profit from each tag produced.plus 130euros that they save because and lost dog will be quickly returned to its owner,and not put in this dog pound.
Given a choice if you went into a store to buy something that cost 3euros to produce but you are charged 15 euros,odds are you will tell them to stuff it.Unfortunately if it law for you to have to buy it,you must pay an extortionate price,without the pleasure of telling them to put it where the sun dont shine.All you can do is shout loud and often and get everybody else to shout,until the powers that be realise you object to being conned

As well as being chipped, the dog I am looking after temporarily for its new owner has home made tags on with two different contact numbers on making it simple to reunite in the case of being lost. Therefore I also object to being forced to put an official council tag on.

excuse me if i sound thick but both my dogs are micro chipped up to date with there jabs do they still need the tags yes or no.

That is a cracking idea. I remember back in the day where cats and dogs had a little tag where it screwed in the middle and in the middle would be abit of paper with name and telephone number. Im sure they sell them a the merca china at a VERY CHEAP prize.
