Free Dog Bags?

FREE dispensers with plastic bags that fasten onto the dog lead are available from San Fulgencio Town Hall. This is part of an initiative to keep the streets and green areas clean of dog excrement. To be eligible for the free gift residents must have registered their pet in the Town Hall Pet Registrar.

All that is required is for each dog owner to show their identity, or their pet registration document at the Town Hall.

It is a legal requirement to collect one’s dog’s excrement and dispose of it in the correct manner. There are many waste bins located throughout the municipality for this purpose.

Fines of between €30 and €300 can be imposed if a dog owner does not adhere to this law.

The San Fulgencio Ayuntamiento Pets Department can be contacted on 966 794 201 (then press 2), for more council information please visit www.lamarina.info

What an excellent idea, but I would think a lot of people would not be bothered to go and get these dispensers with plastic bags. If not, just take your own plastic bag or foil or whatever to pick up your dog's poo !! I believe a lot of people already do this but a large majority of people do not and couldn't really care. Please all you dog owners be respectful of other people and the children that play in the public areas.

As a Dog owner I agree that everyone should pick up their dogs mess. I buy nappy bags from Formentera Market, they are about 1.80 for 200. If people can't afford that they should not keep a dog. They should stop people opening their doors and just letting the dog go for a walk on its own. One such dog did his business in front of my garage. If I had known who the dog belonged to I would have picked it up and thrown it into the owners garden!!!!!!!!! What I want to know is why all Suma payers should subsidise Dog Owners to give them dog bags. One pint less would buy their own bags.

Thanks Ian for publishing this on the forum. This was the last press release that I sent out in my role as councillor for Animal Welfare in San Fulgencio. Jeff Wiszniewski has now taken over this role and I am dissapointed that he did not keep the appointment that he made with me last week to discuss the animal welfare situation in San Fulgencio. Many people are eagerly awaiting his plans for animal welfare in this municipality.
