Pellet stoves/fires

Weve decided to go for a pellet stove as against a log burner. A few reasons decided it for us so now we need to decide on which one and from who.

If any members have bought one can you give us your verdict.

As I understand it most outlets such as Brico Dpt and Leroy Merlin sell moedels made in China and are not very good quality.

This is what we have at the moment.

Apparently the better ones are made in Italy, Germany and Spain, is that about right ?

Some models are not as efficient as others and are noisy when operating, possibly applies to the cheaper ones from China.

We have looked at models in specialist outlets in Los Montesinos, Quesada and Elche and have found the price to be nearly double that of the Brico Dept etc. Are they worth the extra money ?

I would be grateful for any imput on this to help us make a decision.

my personal opinion is that your making a mistate going for pellet burners instead of log burner,but i wont go into that anymore.in either case swedish or scandinavian burners are the best,more expensive but well worth it in long run.only my opinion of course.

We bought our pellet fire a couple of years ago from Leroy Merlin and they installed it for us. Best money we ever spent. Pellet fires are a lot better than log fires because you can regulate the heat, and there is little mess and virtually no smoke. Very eco friendly. Our fire is Italian and is very well built. Depending on the size of your house, you can get different size fires.We leave our bedroom doors open and the heat goes all through. The pellets vary in price, but they all come in 15kg bags. Average price is about 4€ per bag, but can go up to 6-7€ per bag. The fires can also be put on a timer so you can have the fire burning whenever you set the time.
Some companies are charging 3000€ plus for fires, which I found far too expensive. There are cheaper ones, but just do your homework. The size of fire depends on the size of your house. Don't be pushed into buying what you don't need. Work out the square meterage of the room you want to heat and buy accordingly.

We have a Mika Freepoint. The only noise is from the fan, but that can be turned down. It does not bother us at all.

I bought a pellet stove a month or two ago and its brilliant.Far cleaner,more eco friendly and warm without the mess.I actually clean mine after every use,which literally takes two minutes.I have to say however,on reflection I should have weighed up my options a little better.There is quite a bit of fan noise when on full but it can be controlled.I should have gone for a more expensive one with tighter controls,BUT,when the flames get roaring and the room is warm I don't regret it,well worth the slight fan noise when dropped down.
