DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD IN SPAIN. ONLY I HAVE JUST REALISED THAT THE SUMA OFFICE HAS NOT SENT ME A FACTURA OR TAKEN ANY MONEY FROM OUR BANK ACCOUNT?
Suma for cars later this year just got notified today they will take from the bank May10th

Thank you for that, i wondered what was going on as I have had a letter about the car that i did not understand, someone said it was letting me know that the car was over 10 years old and I qualified for the scheme where the government give you so much money off a new one.
It may well be Caroline but I always wondered this in general terms, if somebody runs a 10yr old car are they likely to buy a brand new one? Second I think the figure was 2000 euro towards a new car. As soon as you drive it out the garage you loose more than that, also if you were in the position to do it make sure you negotiate the price of the new car before you want the scrap allowance otherwise it will be on the price of the car so they can deduct later. Thanks for your help Weejohnten. I am not looking to buy a new car i was just worried they were going to make me take my car off the road as it is 11years old. I do not do enough mileage to waste money on new cars, would just have given up driving.
You only get the government money if the car has been registered in Spain for 10 years. But I recently changed my 10 year old car that has only been here for 3 years, and by the time the garage looked at all the possibilities I got about 3,000 off the standard price. In fact the price was very close to what I had paid for my old car.

Simply told me it would be May this year. I now have a copy of the suma saying they will take from the bank on th 10th may. Hope that's usefull
