IPAddresses

I am very interested to get some comments from those of you that know, or think they know what an IP addresses is and how you get one, or how to get a new one.

As far as I can gather your IP address is the address used to send information to you via the network. It is unique to you the same as your mail address. How you get a new one, I would imagine, is to change your network. This is all assumption on my part, possibly totally wrong. But, as I am getting on a bit, I am not up on Computer jargon.

Hi, An IP Address is a 32-bit address usually assigned to a network device i.e. Printer, PC, Server etc. The governing body for assignment of IP addresses is an organisation called RIPE. Usually the provider linking your network to the Public Domain will assign you a static address and behind that you will have private addresses e.g. 192.168.1.1-254. These two networks are disperate networks split via a router which routes information between the two networks. So long as someone manages the private addresses and does not allow them to be seen from the public side then you will have no problems, otherwise you will get IP address conflicts. If you need anymore info contact me as I work for a reputable PC company here and have high level design experience in the Networking industry as well as being a well known singer & performer.

I will take your word for it Paul.
