The Rock Concert

I feel I can not let the rock concert pass with out a comment from me,I went down there out of curiosity,It was so loud and as far as I know it certainly was not rock I was told it was heavy metal but what do I know,I was just glad that I did not live nearby, after 20 minutes I was getting a head ache and decided to leave and on the way out I could not resist having a quick chat to councillor Jeff, I had to ask why in these times of financial restraint did they feel the need to put the free concert on at an alledged cost of somewhere between 16 and 20,000 euro,I was told that the money came from Valencia and had to be spent on this type of thing as it would promote tourism. From what I could see of the crowd they were mainly Spanish and wore the black t-shirt supporting that kind of music.

The thing that really bothers me is why was it sited on our urb and why waste all that money when people are going hungry and pharmasists are not getting paid.

Totally agree with you Trevor,I was lucky,I knew it was heavy metal, having watched a few clips on u tube, not only was it loud, but the sound system was unbelievably poor,I lasted a bit longer than you,but if I had paid,I would of expected my money back,
you are right about the cost, would of much preferred a few bob to go to the needy, and other chariities, with the Pharacists getting a bit of the enormous amount thay Valencia owe them

They have issued another video If you click in it is interesting to see the camera turned on the Audience in the first part there were quiet a few youngsters there. http://youtu.be/xf7kaGAq6HQ More than most of us thought. Perhaps next year it can be at the Football Ground?

Commented Mandy in La Marina 2012-07-13 13:20:47 UTC

Where do you get tourist from. It was all I Spanish.. Signs and everything. That's funny tourism isn't it.

Commented Andi in La Marina 2012-07-13 13:25:04 UTC

Spoke to a few people here on holiday English and Spainish ...tourism doesnt always mean English.....

Commented Mandy in La Marina 2012-07-13 16:01:21 UTC

You are missing the point terry and mandy Their web site was only in Spanish, all signs and information only in Spanish, Only Spanish Bands played. It should of been taken into consideration that this is a mixed area of Spanish English Dutch German Fins Icelandic and Swedish people. It certainly was not aimed at any kind of Tourist Trade what so ever.

but you are in Spain so the signs should be in Spanish you ARE a guest in their country, and the tourists arn't only English they can't make signs for all the nationalities that visit the urb so stop moaning at least we got some different entertainment and the young of the urb could join in for once.

why all having a dig at jeff the councilor he is one of a number so it is not just down to him ,i am begining to wonder if some people on here have an axe to grind.there are people asking why was it held in la marina if it was something they liked & it was held elsewere they would be asking why was it not held here ,there was only spanish bands ,the signs were all in spanish ,the t.v interview was in spanish ,excuse me we are in spain in the u.k i used to people moan about immigrants not learning english now you are getting british moaning the things in spain are in spanish what else will some people moan about.

Not many comments on here are having at go at jeff regarding the concert,They are saying mainly, that the concert was not very good and the money it cost could of been better used by the Councillor Borja Alonso,Jeffs name crops up because he is the Councillor for the Urbs(on which the concert took place)it has already been established that the concert was not intended to take place on La Marina Urbs, but was moved, latish in the proceedings,Jeff was even unaware that the cost had doubled(now rumours that it trebled)Apart from a few people who read this Forum and La marina info.were even aware the concert was taking place.
On reading articles on this forum, it appeared the Valencian Government were picking up the bill, but on reading later it appears valencia were only picking up part of the bill, consequently the tax payers of La Marina were picking up the rest.
So yes we are entitled to some consideration to what goes on with our cash.i do not know how much came from the Council coffers, but we have families going hungry here because most people cannot get a job,we have streets overgrown with weeds,we have a council vendetta against some bar owners. I could go on but suffice to say, I went to the concert,I left early, mainly because the sound system was poor and an insult to the groups appearing,

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-07-14 10:11:23 UTC

the thing about the concert not being good is proberbley an age thing .M. is not my cup of tea but i dont go around trashing it because i dont like i was at a friends house not far from were it was being held the sound system did not sound that bad to me but that was from a distance ,i am sorry but to me it read that some people do have an axe to grind were jeff is concerned & before i go on i have never meet him dont know him etc ,yes there are things that the council need to sort & that will always be the case if people want to find fault they will ,you say the council have a vendetta against some bar owners its not that long ago this forum was full of moans about noise from bars now they do something thats wrong .

Commented bluesboytoby in La Marina 2012-07-14 11:42:32 UTC

bluesboytoby,
Dont know how much you read about the moans regarding noise from bars recently.
If you had followed the comments, you would of found the same few names cropping up complaining about the noise from the bars,So a very few people did in fact spoil the entertainment for the majority. The weird thing about it is the few moaners were moaning regarding noise at night. But the Local Police have been interrupting Line Dancing at lunch time,Quiz in the early evenoing, and even the open air show (which had been going on for a long time)that is the reason the people of La Marina get aggrieved, the Council are trying to stop holidaymakers and tourists enjoying themselves, then put on a pop concert to get tourists into the place.

i was at a do for the jubilee at the hillside bar 2.00 o'clock in the afternoon the police came in told the owner to turn the music down & according to the police it was british who had complained ,i live not far from the sports complex yes we could hear the music on a sat & sun night so what it was not over the top ,i have been told that the police only respond to complaints about noise .yes it seems to be the same names complaining about everything on here.

Commented bluesboytoby in La Marina 2012-07-14 12:28:42 UTC

I was at the same jubilee do.and yes the police arrives regarding a complaint of noise annoyance,in fact i stood quite near the police and my belief is they seemed to point to a certain house, but i dont know what they were saying at the time.Mind you i still enjoyed the do,even if it did go on until the bewitching hour of 7.30 pm.
Another thing that does happen and I have mentioned it before on this forum,If a person makes a complaint about noise, the police investigate ,if ther noise is not excessive they go to the complainent and ask him to withdraw his complaint,if he refuses, they go to the bar and order them to turn down the music,What i call an uneven playing field, until the police warn the unjust complaints people, that they are wasting police time, nothing will change

Commented james in La Marina 2012-07-14 16:39:30 UTC

Well Alan What a load of CRAP the sound system lighting and stage were excellent the bands in my opinion were not good enough to encourage international tourists Magnum 44 play cover versions of Deep Purple Led Zepplin Bad Company the other bands were excellent also but in Spanish. Looks like your tag should apply to you its now over not a lot we can do about it

Commented david in La Marina 2012-07-15 20:34:13 UTC

david, you say its over nothing we can do about it,but if you had gone to the links supplied, via other comments, you would have seen the Councillor for youth and tourism, stating this could be an annual event,so by putting your pros and cons on here, just may make a difference to how the concert is run in the future.
As for what you think of my opinions,I did say I wasnt there for long,so perhaps the sound system was altered,i dont know, but i will take your word for it.But completely lost about the tag comment, but this is a forum, and in the main you can say most things, just hope you are in the minority,in your assumption

We are not guests in Spain. We live here legally and pay our dues. If we were not here what do you think would happen to Spain. Are the people who live in England Guests if they were not born there? What a stupid argument!

I live here legally i pay my taxes ect but i'm still a guest in their country. only a pompous ass would think spain will fall if the brits ect would leave. I agree that in Spain signs should be in the first instance in Spanish but I still maintain whether people like it or not that English is an international language and therefore other countries should use it as such and this has nothing to do with whether or not you are paying your taxes etc it is just a fact

Linda, I agree with you. This is Spain and even though we pay our taxes etc we are still visitors and should be grateful or being allowed to live here. The only thing that would happen if the Brits left is that the Spanish would be able to afford the houses we've left behind. However, we're not going, we love it here we've even taken funeral plans. Viva Espania and long may we enjoy this wonderful country
