The British Consulate, Pensions and Welfare team are holding an event in The Social Centre Virgen Del Carmen Torrevieja on Thursday 8th September at 1900 hrs until 2100 hrs .Later refreshments will be served courtesy of Iceland Torrevieja. There will be reps from MABS, The British Legion, The Diputacion Alicante, Age Concern, Alzheimers Group, HELP Vega Baja and others, to answer your questions. The Town Hall of San Fulgencio is prepared to lay on a bus if there are sufficient persons interested. As numbers are limited those to wishing to attend should contact the Consulate direct at ukinspain.fco.gov.uk or 902 10 93 56 or contact our office first thing on Monday.

Well thats a start with Eve and Tom. Is there not a few more who are interested so a small bus can be organised. It is not that often that we are invited like this. It could be a quite interesting few hours out and the more we can find out about things the better, after all we are the foreigners over here.

Looks like a very good idea with all these different organisations taking part. I remember that the same team came here a couple of years ago and held a very informative meeting in the Theatre in San Fulgencio which was very well attended. My question for councillor Jeff is, if the previous British councillor was able to organise a meeting locally with the team from the British Consulate, why then has he not done the same?

Don: The above information was sent to me by The Consulate only last week. They have arranged the evening in conjunction with the Diputacion de Alicante. As they did last time through the offices offices of the Diputada for extranjeros. If there are enough people interested in a similar seminar here in La Marina, please make it known to us and we will try to arrange one either later in the year or early next year.

Attended the meetings that were held in Guardamar and in San Fulgencio by The British Consulate, Pensions and Welfare team. Well worth the effort to attend if only for people to meet up with the representatives from local support groups who work tirelessly, dedicated to the support of all who are affected by illnesses such as Cancer and Alzheimers etc,whether patients or those close to them – family, friends or carers. Providing support irrespective of nationality, age, economic circumstances or medical history.

Don, Torrevieja is not the other side of the world and they are providing a coach, what more do you want.
